See RI's Two James Beard Award Semi-Finalist Chefs In Action


Chef Derek Wagner is Pure Intensity on the Restaurant's Line

The annual James Beard Awards are the food industry's most prestigious awards, and, once again, two Rhode Island chefs have been named to the 2016 semi-finalist list.

Congratulations to Chef Champe Speidel of Persimmon Restaurant, currently relocating from Bristol to the former home of Rue De L'espoir on Providence's Hope Street, and Chef Derek Wagner of Providence's Nick's on Broadway. Each man has been recognised before by the Beard Foundation, and each man has given us an inside look at themselves in action on our "Nick Rabar: Chef  2 Go" Program.

Chef Derek Wagner opened his kitchen to us in 2011 during "Chef 2 Go's" look at some of Providence's best West Side Eateries.



 Chef Champe Speidel appeared on "Chef 2 Go" in 2012. The restaurant was beautiful, but rather small. The need for more space for the increasingly popular restaurant has prompted the current move to Providence.  



Speidel also had us into his butcher shop, Bristol's Persimmon Provisions, where he demonstrated the ins and outs of carving freshly delivered lamb.



 Chefs Speidel and Wagner will find out if they have made the finalists list in mid-March. Final winners are announced in May.
